CNC high speed miller engraves parts as well

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Dynamics has answered the need for a CNC ‘one-hit’ milling and engraving system - the M5 - that could increase production times, and eliminate secondary processes

Datron Dynamics realized the need for a CNC milling and engraving system that could perform milling and engraving in one production process, increase production times, and eliminate secondary processes. Datron Dynamics has produced a compact, affordable, high-speed CNC system responding to this need.

The front panel industry has faced the challenge of maintaining a constant engraving depth while milling at the same time.

Panel materials have innate irregularities making it almost impossible have a flat panel.

Datron Dynamics answered this challenge by developing its unique ‘Z’ height correction probe.
This component probes the surface of the material, identifying the irregularities in height and compensates for them.

This allows the machine to engrave at exactly the same depth at any point on the material while performing milling in the same process.

This CNC machine is customized with a variable 60,000 rpm spindle.

This feature enables a company to cut through aluminum at rates up to 475in per minute (12m/min) and essentially eliminates the secondary process of de-burring.

A spindle with the ability to rotate up to 60,000 rpm requires a coolant at the spot of milling.

The M5 uses alcohol to cool the tool and the material concurrently.

Alcohol has two benefits.

While being environmentally safe, it evaporates immediately, leaving no residue, eliminating the process of de-greasing.

Most shops today have limited floor space.

The M5 was designed with a bed size of 40in x30in (1000mm x 760mm) while maintaining a remarkably small footprint of 60in x 40in (1520mm x 1000mm).

This large bed size enables companies to do batch milling with speed and ease, while using nominal floor space.

The M5 was fashioned to be easy to use.

Its natural language programming has been enhanced to meet the needs of the panel industry.

This programming has on board canned cycles allowing one to quickly generate a program for engraving, contouring, and pocketing.

The M5’s unique features such as the Z-height correction probe and 60,000 rpm spindle allow for flexibility in manufacturing.

The compact footprint and large bed-size enable a company to produce more parts faster, while utilizing minimal floor space.

This CNC milling and engraving system offers a multitude of features including conversational programming, making it easy for a company to increase production, reduce costs and expand into new areas.

Datron Dynamics, located in Milford, New Hampshire, USA, manufactures affordable, compact, high-speed CNC milling and engraving systems.

Datron Dynamics entered the North American market in 1996 to meet the rapidly increasing demand for a flexible CNC milling and engraving systems.
